Misc October 2013

*Written 7/14*

October is one of my favorite months of the year! It seems like we had a jam-packed one. Here are all the little things that happened between preschool performances and Halloween fun.

Colin started crawling up into this chair and sitting, kicking his legs!
He is getting so mobile it's crazy.

Sitting with his monkey.

So much for that!

At work I had the pleasure of meeting author Gail Carson Levine and
getting to help her while she signed autographs!

Colin found a new favorite place to sit and play.
IN his toy box!

Jane begged me to let her help clean the toilet.
Um, okay!!

Morning routine.

Jane and Colin sat on the couch sharing these fruit loops.
It was one of the first times they have sat and done something together.
Yay for siblings!

More gymnastics.

Cuddling in Mommy's bed.  They are getting this brother and sister thing down!

I snuck a picture in church when they were
being perfect angels.

Jane feeding Colin.
She has been so helpful this month!

A child of the digital age.

The LOVE AFFAIR with Cars begins!!

I couldn't decide between these two smiles.
My baby is soooo cute!

My tree becomes glorious in October for one
or two weeks before dumping all of them in the yard.

More playing in the toy box

This time joined by Jane!

Everything is funner with a friend.

The last few photos are of our yearly efforts to rake up the leaves in the yard.  Since we were going to spend so much time outside, I put Colin's first pair of shoes on!  He had never worn shoes before and it was pretty cute seeing him try to walk.  There is a video below.

Jane really chipped in this year!

Kitty was curious what we were up to.

Abba likes to observe from the sidelines.

Time to play in the big pile!

The next day we played some more!

Throwing the leaves up into the wind is so fun!

Here's some video of the kids playing in the leaves.

And a few other videos from October:

That's it!

Jane's Preschool Halloween performance, October 2013

On October 30th Jane's preschool put on a big Halloween program! They had all of the kids sing and perform adorable songs for a little while, and then there was a huge activity center set up. They had bouncy houses, slides, and TONS of games like fishing for candy, ring toss, coloring, treasure finding, a haunted house - all sorts of things!

Here is the darling video of Jane's school performance. We were seated pretty far from her class so it was hard to get a good video. But Jane is in the middle wearing a tall pointed purple witch hat. The program was 20 minutes long so I just took some video clips during a few songs:

Colin was also acting adorable while we waited for Jane's performance to get started, so I had to take a video:

You might be able to see Jane a little better in this picture than in the video.  She's in the center with the purple hat on.

Jane's best friend Gabi goes to the same preschool, so they were able to play together.  This is Gabi and Jane in one of the bouncy houses:

It's a big production!

Fall stuff

This morning Colin woke up and when he saw Jane he said "Jae!" which makes that his third word after Dada and Mama.  He did it again later, too, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fluke.
He also wore shoes for the first time today! It was pretty hilarious watching him try to walk in them, he kept picking up his feet really high and twisting them a little. He got the hang of it a little more by the end.
Our tree is a pretty shade of yellow today and lots of leaves have been falling so we raked them up. Even the kitties came out to be with us while we were raking.
It was sort of a simple day but the signs were there of times a-changin'.

October Activities 2013

*Written 7/14*

On October 3rd Jane's preschool had their first outing: a visit to the corn fields and petting zoo by our home (it has a name... I just can't remember it right now).  I took Jane there a couple of years ago before Colin was born, but she is older now and it was fun for her to be with her school friends, including her best friend and our neighbor, Gabi.  This activity also happened to fall on a Thursday, which is Michael's day off from work, so Michael and Colin could come, too!  It had been warm and breezy just the day before but the weather got cold very suddenly!  It was chilly and blistery but we still had a good time.

Colin all wrapped up and looking rather cute
giggling with Daddy.

Jane got to pick out a pumpkin and this is the one she chose.
Excellent choice, I'd say.

Jane and Gabi (in green) looking at the cows.

Gabi and her mom Ashley on the hay ride.

Me and my babies on the hay ride!
I was picking hay out of my sweater for weeks!
Worth it.

A couple of weeks later, we cut up our Halloween pumpkin.

Jane and Daddy mucked it out.

Colin and I were nearby for moral support.

Daddy did the sharp work.

Here it is all done!

Here's a short video of Jane's experience cleaning out the pumpkin:

Pretty fun!  I love fall.
